Default Concept Class - Defender

I've had this idea for a while now(sorry fi you think I'm ripping off horible's class idea. Mine is was different) The post isn't gonna be as good as alot of the others hanging around here, but bear with me.

The Defender wears heavy armor(80AL).

It uses a shield as a weapon. The shield is not like a Warrior/Paragon shield. It's 2handed, and gigantic. The shield s the same attack speed and damage as a hammer.

The Defender has 30 energy, and uses Adrenaline.

Attributes

Armor Proficiency(primary): Increases armor by 1 point for each point of armor mastery. Also increases armor gained from items by 1%.
Shield Mastery: I hope you know what mastery attributes do....(meet req of items, do more damage, etc, etc)
Dark Prayers: No inherit effect
Holy Prayers: No inherit effect
Bravery: Increases range of Defender shouts.
Skills

Bravery

"Stay Down!"
5 adrenaline. Shout. Causes all nearby creatures that are knocked down to remain knocked down for an additional 1-4 seconds.

"Look what you've done!"
5 Energy. Shout. Lose all adrenaline. Target enemy is blinded for X seconds for every dead ally.

Dark Prayers

Unholy Flame
25 energy.Calls forth the power of Abaddon to engulf you in an unholy flame for X seconds. You cannot be the target of any magical effects while engulfed, but all enemies attacking you are set aflame for Y seconds. Dispells all magical effects when used.

Holy Prayers

Regrowth
10 energy. Buff. For 30 seconds, you gain X health every 2 seconds.

Deflection
30 Energy. Buff. Your shield is blessed with a holy barrier. For X seconds, all magical effects will be reflected back at the user. Area effects are reflected to random creatures.

Shield Mastery

Earthshaker
10 energy. Requires Shield. Slams shield against ground, knocking down all nearby enemies.


Numbers aren't important, they can always be changed. It's the concept that counts. Sorry, it's not much, but I forget most of the stuff I thought up. I've just always wanted to play a game where I ran around in big armor, hitting people with big shields.

ok, the severe lack of numbers seems to make this class feel really overpowered...
deflection, not an enchantment nor a stance (i assume you want to make it hard to remove, but hey, it feels more like a weapon spell to me), should be of elite status, and perhaps for a maximum of 1-3 spells, X seconds will make the defender everybody's favorite farmer.

i also dont think 30 energy spells exist in GW atm, and id think they arent there for a reason.

not that i mind, but we already have an earthshaker skill, which is elite....


i quite like your idea of the big shields though. alot of readers on this forum seems to feel all new concepts need to be totally original, but i like how you stick to some warrior ideas (and perhaps paragon ones)

i think you should stick to the big shield ideas and try and shave a bit of the holy and dark stuff off,

Some Decent stuff, some totally broken stuff, and totally not finished.

The lack of figures makes it much easier, as Anet can and will put the figures where they belong if aquired, they are totally meaningless.

But even with the little information given, we can already tell that some of the abilities don't work right, like 30 energy spells on an adrenaline class, need I mention that it is taboo to allow adrenaline abilities and spell abilities in one class, and 30 energy is unorthodox, especially for a class with only 30 energy, when we don't even have a break down of 20 energy to meet between 15 and 25. Exhaustion was introduced for the express purpose of keeping spells no greater than 25 energy, other costs include loss of all energy, something unrelated, or something original, 30 energy just doesn't belong.

It would also do to study a little bit before making class ideas, especially with skill examples, since there is already a Warrior skill named Earth shaker, and it does exactly what you described, pointing that it obviously wouldn't be acceptable, but the general idea you have for Sheild attacks is very simular to Hammers.

Some other stuff to consider is that no matter how big a shield is, it isn't ment to be wielded with 2 hands, and a normal weapon should still be considered. Doing elaborate attack skills and other means of deployment is interesting, but so close to warrior that it may as well be a 2 handed broadsword.

This truely isn't much more than a brainstorm, it certainly isn't developed enough to work with. You could have basicly said, Shield Wielding Class, because everything else really doesn't fit, work, or make sense.

Another melee class who uses shouts and knockdown attacks basicly making it a hammer warrior with a shield as well, and adding on broken spell abilities. Adding a broken feature doesn't make this very simular class original. I can agree with using shields on future classes, as shields can be as common as icons. I can also agree with using shouts on future classes, as shout driven abilities can enrich opportunities with skill and team synergy.

But because of the stacking effectiveness of chants and echos with shouts, any new classes with shouts would require a limited use and effect to restrain excessively effective echo and chant builds, and is really a mute point simular to Warrior. Too much of the same, too much of the broken, you could basicly take the idea of attacking with a shield and start all over.

Well.. hard for me to say no to this.. as it share few similarity to my Defender/Templar CC too... (I had Influence,Virtue, Vice, Guardian
and Mace Mastery for attribute) of couse, there are still few difference as well, which I won't go too much detail on..

But would say... could use more origianl uniquness and new skill type/mechanic to get it more seperate than another Tanker Warrior build.

I actually have a Shield-Wielding class idea based on Captain America, i call the "Patriot".

That involves having a large shield and a small club like a riot police.

Sorry...but Earthshaker is already an elite hammer skill. Your version is just seriously overpowered.
